Five faulty food combinations – 

Animal protein and carbohydrates: Different enzymes are required to breakdown these very different foods. When eaten together, the foods do not get properly digested. That leads to indigestion, fermentation and putrefaction in the digestive tract.

Fruit with carbohydrates: Fruit digests much more quickly than any other food. Many people think that adding fruit to porridge is a healthy breakfast option. However, it will only hinder the digestive process. It’s better to always eat fruit on an empty stomach and ideally early in the morning.



Dairy with fruit: Smoothies are a breakfast favourite for many people. The problem is that yogurt is an animal protein and when mixed with fruit, it can cause inadequate digestion which leads to acidity, and fermentation in the GI tract.

 


Avoid drinking with meals: It’s best to avoid drinking large amounts of any fluid with meals, otherwise the digestive enzymes will become diluted and hinder the digestive process. It’s best to stop drinking 30 minutes before food intake and wait two hours after eating before drinking water, to ensure adequate digestion.

 


Melon after dinner for a healthy dessert: Melon is the one fruit that must be eaten alone, or left alone, as it takes slightly longer than other fruits to digest.


Five useful food combinations – 

* Carbohydrates and vegetables such as brown rice and vegetables.

* Animal protein and non-starchy vegetables make for easy digestion, which will enhance one’s ability to breakdown the nutrients and eliminate efficiently. Prawns on a bed of green leaves with cucumber and fennel or grilled fish with lightly steamed green beans.

* Bowl of seasonal fruit salad first thing in the morning. This is a gentle way to wake up the system.

* Avocados combine well with either vegetables or fruits. This semi tropical fruit also works well in green smoothies and makes a great dairy replacement.

* Aim to ingest denser proteins, especially animal-based ones earlier in the day to ensure adequate digestion.

Common Cold: Diet & Home Remedies

 

Diet: Cold food and drinks, ice creams, sweets, fried food and milk products (cheese, creams, yogurt) should not be consumed. Sweet fruit juices should also be avoided. Breads, meats, nuts and pastries are also not good to take.

Follow a light and warm diet like boiled or steamed vegetables and vegetable soup. Spice teas, herbal teas and hot milk can be taken (if boiled with a piece of crushed ginger). Half a teaspoon of turmeric powder can be mixed with the milk.

 

 

Home Remedies:

 

  • Take ½ teaspoon of ginger powder with 1 teaspoon of honey. Black pepper can also be added.
  • Chewing a piece of fresh ginger with a little salt on it will ease coughs.
  • Half a cup of warm water mixed with one teaspoon of lemon juice and one teaspoon of honey can be taken several times a day.
  • Equal quantities of powdered fenugreek seeds, turmeric and ginger powder can be mixed together. One teaspoon can be taken in the morning and evening.
  • In cases of a sore throat, a clove or two cardamoms or a few raisins can be chewed.
  • Gargling with warm salty water is also beneficial. This can be done two or three times a day.
  • Drink plenty of fluids to help break up your congestion. Drinking water or juice will prevent dehydration and keep your throat moist.
  • Inhale steam to ease your congestion and drippy nose. Hold your head over a pot of boiling water and breathe through your nose.
  • Gargle with warm salt water. Gargling can moisten a sore or scratchy throat and bring temporary relief. Try a half teaspoon of salt dissolved in 8 ounces of warm water four times daily.

मोटापा कम करे– सुबह के समय या फिर हर भोजन के बाद एक ग्‍लास गरम पानी में नींबू और शहद मिला कर पीने से चर्बी कम होती है। नींबू मे पेकटिन फाइबर होते हैं जो बार-बार भूख लगने से रोकते हैं।

सर्दी और जुखाम के लिये– अगर गले में दर्द या फिर टॉन्‍सिल हो गया हो, तो गरम पानी पीजिये। गरम पानी में हल्‍का सा सेंधा नमक मिला कर पीने से लाभ मिलता है।

खूब पसीना बहाए– जब भी आप कोई गरम चीज़ खाते या पीते हैं, तो बहुत पसीना निकलता है। ऐसा तब होता है जब शरीर का टम्‍परेचर बढ जाता है और पिया गया पानी उसे ठंडा करता है, तभी पसीना निकलता है। पसीने से त्‍वचा से नमक बाहर निकलता है और शरीर की अशुद्धी दूर होती है।

शरीर का दर्द दूर करे– मासकि शुरु होने के दिनो में पेट में दर्द होता है, तब गरम पानी में इलायची पाउडर डाल कर पिएं। इससे ना केवल मासिक का दर्द बल्कि शरीर, पेट और सिरदर्द भी सही हो जाता है।
